Reed Diffusers vs Candles

Reed diffusers and scented candles are often our go-to home scenting products. They both smell great, provide us with a vibrant scent and bring fresh energy into our homes. Candles have been and probably always will be an essential in every home, weather they're being used to help unwind in the bath after a busy day, mood setters over a romantic meal or as a glow of light during a power cut. However, the next to no maintenance and constant scenting reed diffusers are now favoured by so many when scenting our homes. Although both share many similarities, they do have many differences.

Continuous fragrance

Candles require activation (lighting) in order for the scent to be released in full. Although our candles still smell amazing before you've even lit them, to ahcieve the best scent throw the wax needs melting, meaning your room is not supplied with a continuous strong fragrance. You essentially control when the aroma is released.

Reed diffusers provide your space with a continuous fragrance. Once you’ve placed the reeds into the liquid, the diffuser does the rest! You are guaranteed a pleasant aroma in your room all day every day.

Long-lasting properties

Our Jar candles burn for up to 60 hours, which equates to around 2.5 days whereas our 100ml reed diffusers can last for up to 2 months/ 60 days, so around 24 times longer than the jar candles. Not to mention our 300ml diffusers lasting over 160 days!

Ambiance

Candles transform an atmosphere through both scent and light, changing the way we feel in a space. Lighting a candle for meditation, a bath, a date etc. is a beloved practice for setting an ambiance anywhere. The glow of a candle is instantly calming and helps to relax the mind.

Although a reed diffusers scent can help to create an instant memory or set the tone of a room, the flicker of a candle is second to none - so we would always recommend lighting a candle when craving a bit of down time. Reed diffusers, however, can enhance the aesthetic of any room with their stylish presence, we find a lot of diffuser lovers like to match bottle/ reed colours to their rooms décor to give that extra touch of luxury.

Maintenance/clean-up

Candles require quite a bit of maintenance. You need to ensure the candle wick is straight before and after burning to guarantee an even burn and so that the glass doesn't get too hot when lit. To ensure the best performance from your candle we also always recommend burning long enough for the wax pool to cover the entire surface of the candle. Keeping an eye on the wax pool to avoid any build-up of debris is an essential too as well as of course keeping well out of the way of children, pets, and any flammable items around the house!

Reed diffusers are the epitome of low maintenance and zero clean-up. Once the reeds are placed inside the oil, you barely have to touch the reed diffuser again. The only maintenance required is removing or adding reeds depending on how strong you would like the scent to be and flipping the reeds every few days to ensure the best scent throw performance.

Placement possibilities

When placing your candle in a room you must be aware of the fact that it is a flammable product. This means that a candle should not be lit near materials or areas where it could fall. Candles, therefore, have to be lit with someone present in the room and never left alone or around Children or pets.

Reed diffusers can be placed pretty much anywhere in any room! Feel free to leave unattended for work or while on holidays for a week, your reed diffuser is perfectly safe without your constant supervision.

In summary, candles are a must when looking to create a relaxing ambience, but for practicality and longevity we’d always recommend a reed diffuser!
